We’re super excited!
The UNC Asheville Mechatronics program, a joint program with NC State Engineering has embraced FIRST in a big way!
Starting in the Fall of 2015 UNC Asheville invited local high school age students to participate in a new program at the Mechatronics Lab on-campus where they designed, built, programmed and competed with robots. In October and November these students worked side-by-side with UNC Asheville college students and faculty.
Then in January 2016, those high school students who participated got the chance to join the newly formed UNC Asheville FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team, supported by and at the UNC Asheville Mechatronics program. This is team 5854, GLITCH
And to make it even sweeter, UNCA was honored to host the official Western North Carolina FRC District Event, which took place in March 18, 2016. GLITCH and 23 other teams competed at that event, it was a great success. Team Glitch then went on to compete at the NC State Championship (where they ranked third) and then to the World Championship in St. Louis.
